Chinese Medicine’s theory and philosophy are come from the ancient cosmology, it has the following characters:
- the universe has it’s rules, we called it as Dao.
- people and earth is a part of the universe, and they are following the rule of the universe;
- we called the fields of the universe as Qi, also as a part, people has Qi too;
- the Qi of the universe changed all the time, but also followed rules;
- as a part of the universe, people’s Qi circulation is same as the Qi circulated in the universe;
- also as a part of the universe, people’s Qi is affected by the universe’s Qi change;
After long time researching the cosmology, Chinese ancient sages summarized the rules and recorded as He Tu and Luo Shu:
He Tu Luo Shu
It’s also transformed to Tai Ji

Generally, everything, as big as the universe, or as small as a cell, is categorized to Yin-Yang and Five Elements, which is also including people.
In summary, Chinese Medicine treat people as a mass of living Qi, which has characters of Yin-Yang and Five-Elements. If they are not in an harmony situation, people would get sickness. Then Chinese Medicine is to adjust the Qi’s Yin-Yang and Five Elements, to change it to a balance situation, then the people can cure self.
The main professionally applied methods of re-establishing balance are Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion and food treatment. All the methods are to regulate the Qi.
